Eesti inglise keele õpetajate selts (Estonian Association of Teachers of English, EATE) asutati 23. novembril 1991. See oli aeg, mil Eestit oli haaranud tõeline inglise keele õppimise buum, kui õpetajatena leidsid rakendust kõik, kes inglise keelt vähegi oskasid. Samas tundsid paljud õpetajad, et nende senistest oskustest – nii keelelistest kui ka metoodilistest – ei piisa.
